How to generate system hardware profile for your laptop?

Recently, MIS department request us for hardware and software profile. They provide us Belarc Advisor (personal pc audit software), use to generate hardware and software profile.
That cause me some trouble, because Belarc Advisor only supports Microsoft products* and all my software is either open source or free. Therefore, I talked to the guys in MIS department. They agreed with me but they still request for my laptop’s hardware profile.
Where should I obtain that from? First of all I think of /proc/cpuinfo and /proc/meminfo.
To get Cpu and ram chip info from proc is easy.
cat /proc/cpuinfo > myhwprof.txt
cat /proc/meminfo >> myhwprof.txt
But that is not complete and not presentable, system hardware profile at least must contain laptop’s brand, model ( if given system is laptop), harware interfaces such as wireless and Ethernet LAN interface, etc.
Luckly lshw support html format, which it is at least presentable compared to cpuinfo and meminfo.
sudo lshw -html > myhwprof.htm
Remember to execute lshw with root privilege in order to gather more info from your system.

Nice tip. The ‘Click HERE to check out the outcome.’ link seems to be broken (stray apostrophe).
